My Story
Ever since I was a kid, my favorite form of entertainment was video games. Weather it be playing my Nintendo 3DS or the notorious Wii, games were my gateway to new worlds and a place to let my imagination run wild. Some of my fondest memories are from playing multiplayer games such as Wii Sports Resort and Just Dance with my family. Even when the games weren't multiplayer, members of my family would all take turns on the Nintendo Switch and play in our own style: In Zelda: Breath of The Wild my dad would kill the hard bosses, My mother would find the Koroks, and my sister and I would do quests and shrines.
I used to want to be an engineer just like my grandfather. I would sketch mechanisms and try to create them with household objects, make robots with kits he had given me as presents, and soon enough learn from my dad how to code a raspberry pi with Python. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit however, I found myself wanting to switch to art as a bigger outlet for my creativity. I found inspiration from cartoons and anime and learned techniques from my mother and grandmother who used to be painters. With these contrasting interests, I moved on to high school with many doubts in my mind as to what career I would choose when I grew up. I loved computer science and engineering, but art allowed me to express myself in a way nothing else could.
That year, I found myself at a career expo trip staring at a tech school sign with hundreds of programs for only juniors and seniors. I saw game development and knew right away that that was what I wanted to do when I grew up. It was a perfect mix of both art, computer science, and an added design aspect. When I got home that night I spoke to my dad about it and downloaded Unity. The next year, I signed up for their game development program as soon as I could.
Now, I have been making games for about 4 years and have 2 games proudly published on Itch.io. I have one more semester of my game development program left and will be going to college for game development in Fall of 2025.
